International Women's Day 2024

Dear Colleagues,

On the 8th of March, International Women's Day, we are prompted to contemplate gender equality, recognizing the enduring narrative of women's struggles for rights since the early 1900s.  This day serves as a powerful reminder of the imperative to address the underrepresentation of women in higher education, research, and leadership, pushing us to take collective steps toward building a more equal world.

The European Women Rectors Association (EWORA) is delighted to join in the celebration of your International Women’s Day and extends an invitation to collaborate in advancing diversity and inclusion in higher education. Together, we can inspire change and pave the way for a more inclusive future.

In alignment with the UN Women’s call for #IWD2024, "Invest in women: Accelerate progress," let us channel our efforts into investing in the potential of women, thus accelerating progress toward a more inclusive society. Join us in this endeavor to #InspireInclusion and contribute to the transformation of our academic community.

Additionally, it brings us great pleasure to announce the launch of a podcast interview series titled “Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Conversations with Women Leaders in Academia.” Organized in partnership with the Science|Business Network, Elsevier Foundation, and EWORA, this series features 15 prominent women rectors or presidents, sharing inspiring personal career journeys and offering recommendations about gender equality in science and academic leadership. Furthermore, we want to draw your attention to the recent webinar jointly organized with the International Association of Universities (IAU) titled "Tackling the Leaky Pipeline in Academic Leadership," held on the 5th of March in celebration of International Women's Day.  You can access the insightful discussions from this webinar by clicking here.

Wishing you a great International Women's Day filled with reflection, empowerment, and progress.

Best regards,

Prof. Kerstin Tham
President of EWORA & Vice Chancellor, Malmö University
