Women’s Leadership in Academia in Times of Rising Geopolitical Tensions
The European Women Rectors Association (EWORA) successfully held its International Women’s Day 2026 webinar on “Gender Equality and Academic Careers in the Age of AI.” The recording of the presentation sessions is now available online.
The EWORA 2025 Conference, held on 26–27 June at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon, brought together university leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the theme “Gender Equality in the Academy is Fragile: Is Values-Led Leadership the Answer?”. Over two days, participants engaged in high-level discussions on values-led leadership, policies for advancing gender equality, the creation of inclusive academic environments, and the role of AI in higher education and research.
At the closing dinner of the EWORA 2025 Conference in Lisbon, Prof. Manuela Veloso, Head of AI Research at J.P. Morgan and Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, was honored with the EWORA Honorary Award for her pioneering work in artificial intelligence, her inspirational leadership in academia, and her strong commitment to gender equality in science and technology.
