The EWORA 2025 Conference, held on 26–27 June at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon, brought together university leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the theme “Gender Equality in the Academy is Fragile: Is Values-Led Leadership the Answer?”. Over two days, participants engaged in high-level discussions on values-led leadership, policies for advancing gender equality, the creation of inclusive academic environments, and the role of AI in higher education and research.
At the closing dinner of the EWORA 2025 Conference in Lisbon, Prof. Manuela Veloso, Head of AI Research at J.P. Morgan and Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, was honored with the EWORA Honorary Award for her pioneering work in artificial intelligence, her inspirational leadership in academia, and her strong commitment to gender equality in science and technology.

This year’s International Women’s Day 2023 (8 March) is taking place under the theme #EmbraceEquity: “Equality is the goal, and equity is the means to get there. Through the process of equity, we can reach equality.” EWORA and IAU invite interested participants and experts from higher education to discuss approaches how universities can be more diverse, equitable, and inclusive across their activities, and in particular when working with local communities.
